The Vampire Project

Today we learned about blood! Did you know that blood looks like a smooth, red liquid... but it is not? It is actually a light tan colored liquid (plasma) with tiny cells mixed in it! We made a blood model so we could see what each of the 4 parts look like - amazing what you can do with a little karo syrup, lima beans, lentils, and red hot candy! Posted by Hello

Flat Sam Stanley Comes to Florida.

Flat Stanley meets the Senator! Today we took Flat Sam Stanley to see The Senator, a roughly 140 foot tall bald cypress tree in Longwood - possibly the tallest bald cypress in the USA. Guess how old this tree is! If you guessed 3500 years old - you're right! BTW, in case you haven't heard of Flat Sam Stanley, allow us to introduce you - Flat S.S. was sent to us by cousin Sam, whose 2nd grade class is learning about the United States. Our job is to show FSS a good time, while teaching him and Sam's class about our state!Posted by Hello

Fri.....DAY!!

Happy weekend to all! The week cruised by for us, but the time change thing has us draggin'. The only one who seems to have easily adapted is Will. I do enjoy the extra hour of sun, and as soon as my sleep schedule falls in line, it will be great.

This week we covered alot of ground - we learned about King Phillip taking over the Greek city-states in 338 BC, and the ambitious expansion led by his son, Alexander the Great. Leah especially liked hearing about Bucephalus, Alexander's mighty war horse. We also explored some ancient tribes of the Americas... we learned of the mysterious line drawings of the Nazcas in what is now Peru, and the 10 foot stone heads left behind by the Olmec tribe of Central America - now Mexico. Leah and Jack decided they want to actually take a trip to see the heads someday... so my inner travel agent is going into overdrive! Next week, it's the birth of Rome.

Have a great weekend! A

Happy = Sunflowers. Sad = Ear Loss.

Artist of the Week... van Gogh!

This week at Planet Mancuso Homeschool, we studied the Master Artist Vincent van Gogh, a great - albeit tragic - painter from Holland. Sometimes he was sad, sometimes angry, sometimes happy - but he always expressed his feelings through his art. Sunflowers became a symbol of van Gogh's happier times. Posted by Hello

It's Magical!

I like the NBA team, the Orlando Magic. I went to 2 of the games. My favorite players are LeBron James, Steve Francis, Allen Iverson, Shaq, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard and Grant Hill. At one of the games, I got autographs from Pat Garrity, Tony Battie, and Tony Kucoch. Jack

Welcome to our Planet!

Hello Earthlings... and welcome to the Mancuso Family Blog! We hope this blog will serve as a way for us to keep in touch with our dear families and friends... most of whom live far away from us. It will also serve as a homeschool writing assignment of sorts - Leah and Jack will be handling alot of the blogging. So come visit our planet often... we will be posting about many things - what we are learning about, places we go, things we do, photos, and so on! Feel free to leave comments - that is what the blogosphere is all about!
