We left Pittsburgh this morning and drove through western Pennsylvania (motto: "Home of the Really Large and Sort of Interesting Roadkill") and made our way through Buffalo and into Niagara Falls. We ate lunch with the Italian Basketball Team at Hard Rock Cafe before taking in the awesome power of both the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls. We walked out on the observation deck and down through the lower grotto (where we donned charming plastic ponchos, but still got quite wet).
After we left the Falls, we drove over the Rainbow Bridge and into Ontario, Canada. We arrived in Toronto last night, and will be exploring the city today before heading out tomorrow morning.
Yesterday we decided to ring out 2007 with a quick trip to Gatorland, a Florida icon we had not yet explored.
And, if anyone is bored of their Christmas tree ornaments and ready for a change, check out the innovative design of Gatorland's own Christmas Tree! Crushed beer cans! (The gold-colored Michelob can is a must-do for a truly festive holiday season!
Happy 2008, everyone! May the road rise up to met you.
Now I can't get that commercial out of my head... "zoo, zoo, zoo pals. zoo, zoo zoo pals..." Oh, well - anyway, Will and I took a nice stroll around the Central Florida Zoological Park while the kids were at school yesterday. We basically had the whole place to ourselves - if only they had turned down the heat a little it would have been perfect!
Well, we never got around to wishing everyone a happy 4th, so, happy 5th! I do hope everyone had a fantastic Independence Day. We have been visiting friends in Seneca, SC and are having a blast as always. This photo was taken this morning at Oconee Station Falls. I will share more pictures when we get home tomorrow.
Fall has come to Florida - for a few hours, anyway. We woke to 45 degrees this morning, and the steam coming off the pond in our backyard was calling for my camera. Not to worry - our highs should get up into the 70s later today.
We were this close to ripping one of our new pear trees out of the ground - every single leaf had turned brown and fallen off, and the thing looked about as dead as can be. Then, a few mornings ago I looked out the window and saw one little white flower blooming on one of the branches! Upon closer examination, we found many many buds on the tree. So I guess it is alive after all! This guy seems to think so as well...
**BONUS TRIVIA QUESTION: The title of this post is a classic quote from a popular 80's sitcom. What is the name of the show, what character said it, and to whom?
